Indulging Your Sweet Tooth

Posted in Shopping

I can remember the first time I gave in. I’ve always been a sucker for baked goods; but this was different. For my 11th birthday my favorite aunt took me to the movies and told me that magic phrase, “Get whatever you want.”
I bolted for the Bulk Candies against the far wall. The colorful candy-filled tubes glistened before me as I ripped the plastic baggie from the dispenser. My learning curve on the dispenser was a mere technicality between me and candy bliss. Everything from a lollipop to Hershey bars to all colors, shapes and sizes of bulk candies were at my fingertips.
The bulging seams of the plastic bag nearly popping, I smiled up at my aunt who only rolled her eyes. I’m sure the voice of my mother was echoing somewhere in her head, but she continued to allow my candy-mania. Then, she gave into the mother-load: a giant Hershey chocolate.
Needless to say, that candy lasted nearly a month. Since that time there have been countless plastic bags of bulk candy and probably a thousand Hershey kisses. I’ve weaned myself off of the sugar binge; but there are few things more satisfying than the crinkle of that wrapper while opening a lollipop. The way the light catches the ridge of the candy mold and the refraction of the light through the bubbles just inside.
Though lollipops are the least of my impulses. By far the prince of my sweet tooth is Hershey chocolates-kisses, bars, with almonds or without. I love the sound of the paper wrapper giving way to the silvery foil that encases the smooth chocolate bliss. Whether in cookies, mixed in milk, or straight up, chocolate will forever be my ultimate indulgence.
I try for moderation. Strive for the grip of control; but I believe there’s nothing wrong with a little candy after dinner.
